9 Ayurvedic Practices Anyone Can Implement

You might be new to the term Ayurveda, and that’s perfectly okay! It was more than a decade ago that I first discovered Ayurveda, but it wasn’t until just a few years ago that I dived into it more seriously – and I’m so incredibly grateful that I did! The profound wisdom embedded in Ayurveda has become a cornerstone in my life, and I genuinely believe that its core perspectives have the power to bring about a transformative shift in your life as well.

It’s not just a practice; it’s a lifestyle that has, without a doubt, changed mine for the better!

Here are some quick insights about Ayurveda:

1. Ayurveda (pronounced eye-your-vay-duh) is an ancient healing system from India that has existed for over 5000 years. It encompasses the entire being – mind, body, and spirit.

2. The main concept is that everything in the universe (including us) is made up for the 5 core elements; fire, air, ether, earth, and water. These elements come together in 3 Doshas; Vata, Pitta, Kapha that govern our bodies and minds.

3. When the doshas are balanced we feel healthy, radiant, and vibrant. When they go out of balance we experience imbalances, illnesses, and disease.

4. Ayurveda honours that we are all unique, in the way our body works, our thought patterns, emotional tendencies, which foods we digest well and which ones cause digestive issues.

How you can weave Ayurveda into your daily life?

Here are some tips to begin implementing Ayurveda into your daily routine so that you can prevent imbalances and feel more balanced, healthier and happier.

1. Wake up early (between 5-7am) and go to bed (around 10pm) at the same time every day.
2. Clean your tongue with a tongue scraper every morning (before you eat breakfast).
3.
Eat 3 meals a day; early breakfast, lunch at 12:00, and dinner around 5-6 pm.
4. Eat enough at mealtimes so you don’t feel hungry in between meals. Snack only when hungry!
5. Eat mostly warm, cooked foods as they are easier to digest.
6. Always choose seasonal fruits and vegetables.
7. Avoid ice cold drinks and stick to cold, raw foods only in the summer.
8. Create a daily routine that includes some form of self-care (movement, meditation, etc.).
9. Do a seasonal Kitchari cleanse (about 2-3 times a year).

Seems super simple but trust me, once you embrace these daily habits you will notice that you feel more balanced and in tune with your body and mind.
